One of our cherished values and foundational essence is Righteous Rulership and that we are ready to set with epistle and demonstration of legacy! The essence of every rule should be right living and standards.
The Student Christian Movement (SCM) of Nigeria, University of Ibadan is the first institutionalized student Christian body in the premier university, a pioneer organization from which subsequent campus fellowships in Nigeria emerged or after which they were modelled.
Established in Nigeria in 1948 along with the establishment of the then University College, Ibadan, now known as the University of Ibadan, the SCM is an affiliate of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), Geneva, Switzerland.
The Student Christian Movement not only stands as a Christian organization totally committed to the work of the Great Commission, preaching Christ crucified and resurrected, but also has an immense dedication to maintaining the stance of a watch dog to the leadership exercise in the nation, this has been achieved previously through the agitations for an independent Nigeria by SCMers both in Nigeria and in the diaspora at the time, and subsequently, till date, through National Conferences and Senior Friends and Alumni Fellowship meetings, ending with Resolutions which were (and still are) forwarded to the relevant government quarters, of which a prominent one was the SCM National Conference of December 1965 on the political turmoil in the nation which eventually led to the January 1966 coup d’état. Thus, over the years, SCM has been concerned about the leadership situa tion in her dear nation and it is expedient at this time of turbulence in our nation.
Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. Righteousness is right living that spells out honesty, integrity, dignity, credibility.
However, at every election we vote a new set of people, who are a product of our underestimate of the role of righteousness in leading God’s people, Nigerians! We tend to forget that we can never cut down a tree by plucking all its fruits. There is perhaps no other fruitful way of celebrating our 66th Anniversary Celebrationsand 54th year of our dear nation, Nigeria existing independently than embarking on an adventure to enlighten the populace.
It takes righteous leadership to produce citizenry righteousness that makes a nation sweet and pleasant. In order to build national values, individuals need to build their own personal values. When this happens, each person would see the need to serve the nation, being mindful of the fact that there is no nation without its people. We are Nigerians! This is our Nation.
We should be mindful of impacting ourselves positively, thereby building a network of impactful people and now is the time the values of the nation as a whole would be built.
Welcome to the Nigeria with equality, equity with poverty, corruption and insurgence eradicated. We have a voice and we are ready to speak, it is our calling to maintain the stance of a watch-dog in our society and the time is here to rightly educate our nation on the light in righteous governance, this is not a political affair, it is time we school our dear Nigeria we love.
As we harmonize students on campuses in impacting the entire nation!
A Spirit inspired orientation as a Public Lecture on the possibilities of rejuvenation of a nation on the brink of total disintegration and crumple is not only timely but urgently sought after.
