Highlights of Mr and Miss UI Pageantry

Mr and Miss UI finally came back after a five-year hiatus. It was nothing short of awesome. It was well anticipated and well promoted. What people were eager to know was whether their favourite contestants would wear the crown. It can be said that people did not only come in their droves for just the excitement, they also came to support their favourite contestants. It can be deduced from the screams and shouts that followed when their favourites candidates were on stage. There were lots of exciting things that happened at the event. Here are some of the notable highlights;

MC Twinkle and Tammy hosting

Mc Twinkle and Tammy’s good chemistry reflected in the beautiful hosting they did on Saturday. Mc Twinkle in particular was spectacular. He showed why he is one of the best comedians, host and hype men on campus. He was able to reel the audience in with maximum efficiency. His jokes were also on point. Hardly will you see any comedian in University of Ibadan that makes people laugh the way Mc Twinkle makes people laugh. He was also able to control the stage and audience well. Tammy also did a good job. She flowed with Mc Twinkle quite well. What the audience loved most apart from her amazing sense of fashion was her voice. Her voice flowed well with her hosting. All in All, the hosting was amazing.

Amazing Opening Performance from the Contestants

The contestants put in an amazing opening performance in the event. The Choreography was awesome. They were able to gel well and give the audience an amazing show. The screams from the audience were not just to support the contestants. They were genuine as they reflected the excitement the audiences felt watching their perform. Whoever taught them that performance or directed would have been proud. There were two rounds of dance performances. The first one who introduced them was awesome. It did the job of introducing the audience properly to the contestants. The second was a build-up to the first. It was also a good performance. The Audience got a glimpse of what they paid for in the opening performance.

Amazing and Quality Individual Performances from Contestants

The contestants knowing what was at stake knew their performances had to be quality.  Anything less than quality would have hampered their chances of winning. They knowing this, delivered a worthy and quality performance. From the first contestant to the last both in the male and female category were amazing in their performances. Their performances were well thought and well planned for. Contestant 6, 8 and 5 performances stood out in the male category. Contestant No 1, 3 and 5 stood out in the female category. It is however worthy to note that they all delivered an excellent performance. There was no dour moment in any of their performances

Awards Presentation

Awards presentation also took place on Saturday. Zik Hall took almost all the awards in the Hall Category while the Faculty of Education won most of the awards in the male category. Faculty of Law also had some winners most notably Artistsmith winning Creative student of the year. Some individuals from Faculty of Law won some very notable awards. Zik Hall took home the Hall of the Year awards. Members of the hall also took some awards; Hall Chairman of the year, Best Male player, Best Coach to name a few. Faculty of Science won the faculty of the year. Junior Chambers International won the campus organisation of the year.

Faculty of Education, the new home of Mr and Miss UI

It was all joy and excitement as two students from the faculty of Education emerged winners of the competition. It gave the students from Faculty of Education some bragging rights and something to celebrate,

Contestants No 6, Emenike Anthony aka Jasper, the newly crowned MR UI, the winner from the male category is from the department of LARIS, Faculty of Education.

The Newly crowned Miss UI, Oshinyemi Promise; Contestant No 10 from the department of Arts and Social Science Education, from the faculty of Education. The male winner was announced first before the female winner. When the male winner was announced, it sparked up celebrations particular among those from the faculty of Education. They were however not still satisfied as they wanted to sweep the whole categories. They were actively clamouring for Contestant No 10 to be announced as the winner. When MC Twinkle finally announced her as the winner, the hall erupted with excitement even as the crowd began to disperse. It was still even talked about as they made their way home.

Mr and Miss UI program was very interesting and well organised even though it started very late. The Venue was also the best choice for the event. DJ Gabi had a much-improved performance in the program. He even surpassed his standards. The whole concept of the program was exciting and it can be said that the audience got what they paid for.
