Variety night, Bon fire and other programs coming up so far is just one of the many things to prove this point. It is not just about the programmes, programmes can be organised by anybody, it is also about the content of the programmes and the excitement the program brings.
The Variety night was one of the best variety nights organised so far this session. It commanded a lot of attendance even from those outside the faculty. It was fun from start to finish. It was beautifully hosted and the activities there were fun. Given that it was among the first to be organised, it kickstarted the rest well. The Large Lecture Theatre (LLT) used for the event was filled to the brim and as earlier stated not only faculty of Arts students attended. The activities done at the event were fun. The Artiste were also very entertaining. The comedian who performed at that event was mind blowing. The contestants gave the audience what they wanted. The DJ was also very amazing. The news of the success of the variety night spread all throughout campus and was referenced quite a number of times.
The bon fire was also another very successful programme. It was done with the faculty of technology. It was a bang that was attended by both Techites and Afasites. There was also presence of other members of other faculties. They came in their droves. It is worthy to note that anytime the faculty of arts does a programme, it commands the attendance of students of other faculties. Other Faculties sometimes use the blueprint of faculty of events to organise their own. What should also be noted that the entertainment is no faculty specific. Their programmes are not entertaining just because it ought to be entertaining as per it is the faculty of arts. It is entertaining because of the efforts the Faculty of Arts put into the organisation of their events. They endeavour to make it as entertaining as possible, to make it reach that standard of entertainment. They make whatever programs worthy of entertainment.
They strive to better their standards every day. Each program has to be better than previous ones. The Variety night was an example of this. This session’s freshers Variety night was definitely better than the last. It was definitely more entertaining and interesting than the last. The main Variety night will definitely be more interesting than the Fresher’s own, no doubt. Their strive to become better and more entertaining in each of their programs is strengthening their case of being the new hub of entertainment in University of Ibadan.
Faculty of Arts had reputation for being a very social and entertaining faculty before now. However, its position has been strengthened. It is now becoming the central hub of entertainment in the university of Ibadan. It can partly be attributed to the emergence of “Akoem” as the social director of the association of faculty of arts. According to him, he had plans to improve the social standard before becoming the social director. He believes that after since he assumed office,
He has been able to “ignite AFAS social standard in such a defined way via well planned events and introduction of intriguing activities such as selection of artist of the week of the week, Man Crush Mondays., Woman crush Wednesdays etc.
All these activities add together is gradually gearing the faculty of arts as the new hub of entertainment. There has also been an establishment of the AFAS house of entertainment. It includes the AFAS Dance crew, Acting troupe and musical band. There is also an event coming up that will enable AFASITES that will enable them to exhibit their talents. This is the first of its kind.
All these programmes promise to be very exciting. The success of the previous two programmes held bear testament to that. Faculty of Arts are absolutely not slowing down in the entertainment structure of the University of Ibadan. It should also be noted that AFAS has one of the highest artistes in the University of Ibadan. There is even a special programme for the artistes in the Faculty of Arts to showcase themselves.
Faculty of Arts are never too far from the central hub of entertainment in the University of Ibadan particularly among faculties but they are most definitely close to being at the top. They have certainly created a standard in the world of entertainment in the University of Ibadan. They are certainly up there in the world of entertainment in the University.
