Covenant Odedele, the UI Student Union President, stated during the Congress, which is presently being held at the SUB foyer, that 2 million naira was disbursed for part payment 37 students’ school fees.
He stated that this money was obtained from the student union dues and was given to truly indigent students.
According to him, the recipients’ names were not publicised to protect their identities.
However, he went on to call out their matric numbers and how much they received.
Clarifying how the money was obtained, he stated that all the money students pay through remittance goes to TSA account and that the Central Bank of Nigeria has a vault into which each federal institution pays into TSA and this is where the remittance of funds and dues came from
He also mentioned that when the money was to be disbursed, it was disbursed from the funds in the TSA account, which was domiciled in the CBN, through the union dues, which were obtained from the school management.
