3792 new students have been matriculated into the University of Ibadan, today, September 12 2023, at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
The ceremony was a grand celebration of the university’s newly admitted students, who were officially welcomed to the “Tower of Learning.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, congratulated the matriculants on their admission and reminded them that they have no excuse not to read and make good grades. He also emphasized that the university is a place of freedom, but that freedom is guided by rules and consequences.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC), Prof. Aderonke Bayeroju, warned the matriculants against immoral acts, such as cultism, examination malpractice, bullying, campus prostitution, and improper dressing. She advised them to find out the university’s rules and regulations and to do their utmost to adhere to them.
The matriculation lecturer, Mr. Michael Mekuleyi, a 2020/2021 First Class graduate of Mechanical Engineering of the University, Michael Mekuleyi and an entrepreneur, encouraged the matriculants to be proactive and to take charge of their education. He also advised them to use the university library and to avoid fraud.
The ceremony was attended by the Students’ Union UI’SU Executives led by Samuel Tobiloba . Improper dressing and lateness were frowned upon, and security measures were in place. The ceremony ended with droves of matriculating students, parents, family, sponsors, and well-wishers celebrating the momentous occasion.
