Sigma Chief, Offordum Paschal, has revealed that the TedxUI event that took place in July in the University of Ibadan was financed by the members of the TedxUI club who are mainly students with the help of some other sponsors who responded two weeks after the event.
He made this known while responding to the question of the challenges they faced in organizing the event. This was as a result of his official statements at a press conference held on August 10, 2017 to commemorate the launching of the club.
Offordum Paschal, who also happens to be the Licencee of the club mentioned that the club was modelled along with TED, a non profit organization dedicated to spreading ideas. “The club is a platform for members to seek for partners to hold events and also generate ideas that could trigger changes in the community”, he stated.
Abdulkareem Toyyib, another member of the club, shed more light on their upcoming events. He mentioned that TedxUI Women will take place on the 2nd of November and it will feature women who are shaking the fabric of the society. He also announced that a link will be released the next day on their website, www.tedxui.com, for the public to nominate female speakers who they feel should be featured at the event.
While responding to the criteria for membership, the president, Offordum Paschal, mentioned that a full list of the criteria will be released by the end of the day. ” TedxUI club is not for anyone to just join. It is for those who will be able to add something to the institution “, he added.
