The Students’ Representative Council (SRC), University of Ibadan has fined the House Secretary, Adeyemi Oluwaseun, following the Council’s Disciplinary Committee’s reports on alleged financial misconduct and procedural breaches that concern the House Secretary during the 8th Emergency Plenary Meeting of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Students’ Representative Council (UISU SRC), which was held today, Saturday, 8th of November 2025 at the Student Representative Chamber, Kunle Adepeju Building, Students Union Building (SUB).
The allegations, regarded as ‘case 1’ in the report of the Disciplinary Committee dated 9th October 2025, were tabled by the Inventory Committee of the Council against the House Secretary, Adeyemi Oluwaseun, regarding his committed acts that constituted financial misconduct and procedural breaches. The allegations include:
- Unauthorised Handling of Union Funds.
- Channelling monies meant for official purposes into his personal account.
- Spending Union monies without necessary approval.
Furthermore, according to the Disciplinary Committee’s report previously referred to, upon careful consideration of evidence and submissions, it was established that:
- The House Secretary admitted to receiving money to his personal bank account rather than the Union account, although he explained that this practice was informed by advice from his predecessor, who suggested that such an approach made it easier to monitor payments and promptly affirm receipts, particularly for rents on Union facilities and the Union bus.
- The House Secretary also admitted spending some of the received amounts on the maintenance of Union properties, notably the Union bus, without approval of the Council, with his explanation being that this was incurred in an emergency situation requiring immediate action.
- The House Secretary provided a personal account statement to the Committee, which confirmed that the transactions were traceable to legitimate Union purposes.
On a further note, the Disciplinary Committee, through its report, recognised that some emergencies occasionally warrant urgent financial action; however, the doctrine of emergency can only be suspended but does not eliminate due process. Hence, officers must still account for every expenditure and promptly notify the relevant committees of such emergency measures.
The report recommended that the House Secretary, Adeyemi Oluwaseun, shall write a formal apology letter to the Inventory Committee for failure to submit reports and respond to summons in due time and pay a fine of ₦3,000 (Three Thousand Naira) and this was passed and adopted as a resolution of the house.
