Fashola Tunji, 200-L student of Law at the University of Ibadan has won the first runner-up prize in the Doraluna International Story Writing Competition, with his story titled The Myth of Us.
Doraluna is a multilingual site that offers free books to children to develop their growth by exposing them to role models through the books they love to read. The competition is a star-rating competition where writers/authors submit their works and share for people to read and rate.
Explaining what prompted him to apply for the competition, Fashola said, “After several days in my house during lockdown, I was literally doing nothing, so I asked myself if my life after school is certain.
“Then, on my legal icon page, I saw a post on a legal essay writing competition, just like a hungry dog jump on a bone, I grabbed the competition immediately and I went to confirm the competition page immediately if it is legit. I went to their Instagram page and I confirmed that they are real. As I was about to leave the page, my thumb flipped through the screen and I noticed Doraluna in a hash tag and I immediately screenshot it.”
He added that he took interest in the writing competition because “it was a children essay competition.”
“My brain automatically suspended the legal essay and quickly subscribed to the children essay. Inside my head, ideas were flowing like river Nile. So many wild thoughts came in. Within five minutes, I was so surprise I had compiled the story so fast.”
Fashola Tunji also said his win came with a difficulty, but three days after his book was published, it was among the top-rated books which gave him optimism.
“I give thanks to God because this is the first time I will be writing essay competition with dedication, I believe it paid off veriy well.”
The organizers of the competition will award a total of $1500 to winners. The grand prize is worth $1000 while the second and third place winners will get $300 and $200 respectively
