The erstwhile Editor in Chief of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, Tijani AbdulKabeer has emerged as one of the awardees of the maiden edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Award.
The Vice Chancellor’s Award is an initiative created to celebrate outstanding students in various categories like leadership, academics, public speaking and even journalism.
The Vice Chancellor’s Most Outstanding Students Award for the 2023/2024 session had a total of ten students who emerged winners in the various categories.
The awardees include, Samson Tobiloba (Host), Olagoke Babalola, Sunny-Ekhalume Ozimede, Jucal Life Adefokun, Maryam Adebusola, Victor Oluwafemi Femi-Lawal, Tijani AbdulKabeer, Chineke Ugochukwu and Opegbemi Matthias Busoye, who emerged as most outstanding students in the Leadership, Social impact, Entertainment and Creativity, Sports, Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation, Journalism, Public Speaking and Academics categories respectively.

Also, Asido Campus Network, emerged as an awardee for being the most outstanding student association
When asked about the selection process of the award and the grading system, the erstwhile Editor in Chief, Tijani AbdulKabeer stated that there was a call for nominations and after this, there was a shortlist of three from each categories and then the judges (VC’s office) selected the winners.
When also asked about how he feels to be selected as one of the awardees, Tijani Abdulkabeer commented that it was a thing of joy for him.
In his words, “It fills me with joy to have been selected as the recipient of this award. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. However, the recognition isn’t just about me. It’s also about the tireless efforts of the Union (UCJUI) that supported me throughout my journey especially campus journalists that were instrumental to my success as Editor-in-Chief”.
