UCJ UI Announces Fifth Edition Of 2025 Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition.

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ UI), has officially announced the call for entries for the 2025 edition of its Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition.

This year’s competition challenges participants to write on a timely national question: “Tribe, Tongue, and Territory: Can Nigeria Truly Overcome Its Identity Crisis?”

According to the competition guidelines released by the organizers, submissions must be original and unpublished works, not exceeding 1,500 words.

All submissions are to be formatted in Times New Roman, font size 12, and double-spaced.

Each entry must include the author’s name and their affiliated local press organization within the university.

The competition is open to all registered members of the UCJ UI, including intending inductees.

Submissions for the essay competition will be accepted from September 1, 2025 to September 30, 2025.

The winner will be awarded ₦60,000, the first runner-up will receive ₦50,000, and the second runner-up will be granted ₦40,000.

The Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition is an annual initiative designed to promote intellectual discourse, enhance writing skills, and encourage critical thinking among student journalists on campus.
