University of Ibadan’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka has said the University students stand to benefit tremendously from the Primus Mall project as there will be employment opportunities for them to sustain their academic sojourn in the University.
The VC disclosed this during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Primus Mall on Friday, October 30th.
Prof Olayinka also added that the Primus Mall, a public private partnership, a cooperative arrangement between the university and its partners, which is driven by Primus 1948 Ltd already registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, is part of the solution to the challenge of sustainable funding the university faces.
He said: “It is therefore our expectation that the project will enhance increased private financial support for the University of Ibadan through the provision of a diversified and more stable funding base.”
The VC charged the “management of Primus Mall to ensure a quick completion of the Mall so that investors can take up spaces in it because of its strategic location,” adding that the support of investors is needed to improve the University’s learning environment.
In his further remarks, he acknowledged the support of all parties involved in the reality of the project.
The Primus Mall which is located at the Sango-Ojo/ University of Ibadan Road, Ibadan, when completed will have four cinemas, about 350 parking spaces, two Family Entertainment service and over 48 stores, covering 7,000 square metres. The estimated completed period is eighteen months.
