The Students Representative Council (SRC) on February 25, 2017 has reinstated Ojo Oluwanifemi as President of the Students’ Union, University of Ibadan (UISU) and has also impeached Okunsanmi Aderoju.
In the plenary session, the members of the hallow chambers reinstated ‘Nifemi on the grounds that he had fulfilled the conditions given for his reinstatement. Ojo Oluwanifemi had been suspended on 10th of December, 2016, for not following due process when selling the Marcopolo bus ;not carrying along the senate on the new design of the UISU logo amongst other charges. He had written a letter of apology to the house stating his remorse and sincere repentance. He had also returned the Marcopolo Bus which triggered his suspension.
However, not so much luck was on the side of the suspended and now impeached vice president; Okunsanmi Aderoju. Members of the Disciplinary Committee had recounted their displeasure with her during the course of their investigation. In a report presented to the house, the Disciplinary Committee had recommended that available evidences as at the time of report show that she misappropriated funds.
In an interview with Miss Aderoju, she recounted her ordeal to UCJUI on trying to meet up with the conditions that led to her suspension. She narrated that there are evidences to show all the receipts of her expenditure except for those who they are indebted to and have also threatened not to produce a receipt unless they pay up.
She is however disheartened that the committee kept on hammering on the money she received from Governor Abiola Ajimobi. She also lamented that the house had not officially invited her to the sitting and had not followed due process.
While speaking with Rt. Hon. Onifade Bello, UCJUI gathered that Miss Aderoju can appeal to the congress if she is not satisfied with the decision of the house.
