Early on, Queen Idia’s goalkeeper, Hamidat, showed great form, making a crucial save in the 9th minute to deny Queens a scoring opportunity. She came up big again in the 18th minute, stopping a one-on-one chance from Esther, one of Queens’ most dangerous attackers.

Despite mounting pressure from Queen Elizabeth II Hall, Queen Idia held their own, and the game remained tightly contested until the end of the first half. The referee blew the whistle for halftime at 5:07 p.m., bringing an intense 27-minute half to a close.

After a 10-minute break, the second half resumed with a substitution for Idia with Aliyah replacing Favour. The change seemed to inject new energy into the team, as Idia started the second half on a stronger note, pushing more aggressively into the Queens’ half.

However, Queens soon found their rhythm. Around the 10th minute of the second half, they registered their first shot which flew well over the bar. Their persistence paid off in the 16th minute when Esther finally found the back of the net, breaking the deadlock. Just a minute later, Feyi doubled the lead with a quick follow-up goal, putting Queens in control.

Idia responded shortly after when a foul committed by Nancy inside the box resulted in a penalty being awarded. Sarah calmly converted the spot kick, reducing the deficit. But drama unfolded again when Idia’s goalkeeper, Aliyah, was penalised for handling a back pass from her defender, leading to an indirect free kick inside the box. Queens, capitalised as Esther, scored her second of the day from an assist by Abigail.
