Kenneth Mellanby Hall, in the eve of Sunday, 6th of November 2016, witnessed a protest organised by residents of the Hall, particularly occupants of A-block (occupied mostly by freshmen), against the executive council of the Hall, under the leadership of Mr. Omobolaji Bello.

The protest which was to have occurred the day before during the Primus King contest, was terminated with the announcement that a Congress will be held the next day (Sunday).

UCJ Correspondents gathered that the protest was as a result of the Hall week which did not meet the expectation of residents of the Hall. It was gather

ed that the Kenneth Mellanby Hall Legislative Council pasted a report of the activities which is to take place during the week and the amount approved for each activity (which totalled N906,740.00) earlier before the week started. But Mellanbites protested against the week which according to them was ‘wack’.

Although, it was made known by reliable sources that the amount approved was greater than the amount in the Hall’s account, as

other part of the fund were to be gotten from sponsorship, but the amount in the Hall’s account was unknown as there was no statement of account produced as at the time of this report.

According to a Mellanbite who pleaded anonymity, “the whole hall week was wack. The executives were not careful in spending, how would we have a hall week without eating anything.”

Another said, “I am absolutely disappointed in the Bolaji led administration, his image before Mellanbites is surely tarnished, his administration with all this issues is a total failure”.

Mr. Israel Agada, the Public Relation Officer of the Hall, while speaking with UCJUI correspondent said that the problem lies in the poor level of communication. While the organisers failed to communicate with Mellanbites on the state of finance, Mellanbites in return are not willing to grant listening ears for explanation.

” The problem is that, Students are not calm enough to listen. The budget that was approved is more than what is inside the account. The executives actually did that in advance of the fund that they have sourced for. But instead of the planning committee to carry other Executives along, so that we can inform Mellanbites about the shortcoming before the week commences at all, but they didn’t”, he said.

It was reported that no food was served during the course of the week, neither asun nor ewa night held and no explanation was given by the executives for such action, which opposed the norm of the Hall.
