JUST IN: UI SUEC Lifts Ban on Electoral Activities, Releases Timetable

The Students’ Union Electoral Commission of the University of Ibadan (SUECUI) has officially announced the commencement of electoral activities for the 2023/2024 academic session.

In a statement released on Wednesday, January 16, the commission declared that the ban on electoral activities would be lifted on Saturday, January 18, marking the beginning of the highly anticipated election season.

In the special release signed by Olanrewaju Ibrahim Osiga, Chairman of the Publicity Committee, and Olaniyi Sodeeq Dolapo, Chairman of the Logistics Committee, students were urged to prepare for the electoral process while adhering strictly to the established guidelines.

Election Timetable and Activities

The timetable released by SUECUI outlines the electoral activities for the Students’ Executive Council (S.E.C.) and the Students’ Representative Council (S.R.C.) elections.

Collection and Submission of Nomination Forms: Monday, January 20 – Friday, January 31, 2025.

Screening Exercise for Candidates: Saturday, February 15, 2025, and Tuesday, February 25 – Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Press Night: Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

Speech Night/Manifesto Presentation: Thursday, February 21, 2025.

Elections:

S.E.C. Election: Saturday, February 22, 2025.

S.R.C. Election: Saturday, March 1, 2025.

SUECUI, in its statement, emphasized the need for all candidates and stakeholders to maintain decorum and uphold the values of the university during the electoral process.

“All campaigns and related engagements must strictly adhere to the electoral guidelines as provided by the Commission. This election season should foster a sense of community and responsibility among students,” the statement added.

The Commission further assured the university community of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections that would uphold the democratic tenets of the institution.
