JUST IN: TEAM DOKia Emerges UIRESDEV GenZ Hackathon Winner

DOKia, a medical focused app emerged first position in the University of Ibadan Research Development Gen Z hackathon grand finale that was done today, 5th of November 2024 at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

The Hackathon was the one of the major features of the day one of the two-day University of Ibadan Research and Development Fair known as UI-town connect 2024.

The theme of this fair was “Refocusing Research and Innovation towards scaling up Nigerian Brands for Commercial Value”.

The fair started with the welcome address by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership), Prof Oluyemisi Bamgbose and opening remarks by the Chairperson UIRESDEV Committee, Professor A. O Fadoju and Director General, DAWN Commission, Dr. Oluseye Oyeleye.

An address was also given by the Chairman of the occasion, Prince Barr Yemisi Shayllon. The President of the Entrepreneurship Club University of Ibadan, Miss Abiola Ojo gave an opening speech and the compères, Olakunlehin Olabusuyi and Esther Olanrewaju called out each of the teams after which the Gen Z hackathon competition began.

The six teams that emerged as finalists are: Team Dokia, Team Clyme, Team Digistream, Team Campus MarketPlace, Team Edugaze and Team Uniguide. Each of these teams got five minutes to pitch their ideas and they were all squeezed by the judges after the pitching exercise.

The judges were Dr. Aiki Raju (the deputy dean of students affairs, Mr. Soji Adisa, the Deputy director of ITEMS, Prof A. I Bamgboye, the dean faculty of technology and Mr. Daniel Osufuwa, an academic researcher.

The questions asked spanned from the revenue model of the solutions, the business model canvas and the accessibility of products considering internet, electricity supply, etc.

At the end of the competition, DOKia emerged in first place, followed by Clyme technologies, who finished as second, and Team Uniguide clinching the third position.

Team DOKia, who also won the award for best innovative idea, consists of three medical students; Oloruntoba Ajayi, Samuel Ogunleke and Godson Chukwuemeka.
