Jesutomiwo Adebumowa Emerges President as UCJUI Holds Election

Jesutomiwo Adebumowa, a 400-level Law student, has emerged as the President of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, following the union’s election held on November 6, 2025.

The election, which was conducted online by the 37th UCJ Electoral Commission, recorded a total of 93 accredited voters drawn from registered press organisations within the university. The voting results were officially released at exactly 6:46 p.m.

Jesutomiwo secured 53 votes to defeat her opponent, Omofala Samuel, also a 400-level Law student, who polled 36 votes.

In the Vice President (Editorial) category, Emmanuel Utibe Ima-Abasi, a 500-level Medicine and Surgery student, emerged with 47 votes against the 40 votes of Ojo Oluwasegun Michael, a 300-level student of Communication and Language Arts.

For the position of General Secretary, Olajide Tikristi Joshua, a Law student, polled 59 votes to defeat Ajewole Faith Bólúwatifẹ́, a 200-level Psychology student, who had 30 votes.

Meanwhile, Akinbobola Oluwaferanmi (Assistant General Secretary-Elect) and Williams Aanuoluwa (Public Relations Officer I-Elect) both emerged unopposed, each securing 84 votes.

Speaking with the UCJ, the President-Elect Jesutomiwo Adebumowa expressed her gratitude to voters and the union.
“I want to thank everyone who listened to me, supported my vision for the UCJ, and voted for me. I also appreciate every campus journalist who participated in the election. Kudos as well to the members of the Electoral Committee for ensuring a free and fair process”, she stated

“It is truly a privilege, one I do not take for granted, to serve as the President of our great union. I assure every member of the UCJ that our union will continue to be strengthened during the 38th Administration, and the promises we have made will be diligently pursued and put into action.”, she added
