The 6th Assembly of the Students’ Representatives Council, University of Ibadan, has rejected the proposal made by the Junior Chambers International (JCI) of the same institution, to give training to its members.
The rejection of the training proposal took place during the sitting of the Council on Saturday 27th August 2016 at the SRC chambers.
While debating on whether to accept the proposal or not, some representatives in the Council of which included Hon. Agbaje Abiola, were of the stand that it would be wrong for them as legislators to be trained by those who are not in the field of legislation. Some, which included Rt. Hon. Oyegunle Paul and Rt. Hon. James Boniface, opined that it would be best for JCI to inform them of the area in which they will be trained, while others, which included Hon. Ebenezer Makinde, posited that it will be good if the training offer was accepted.
However, after much debate among representatives in the Council, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Onifade Bello requested that Honourables vote on the raised motions. The voices of those who were for the rejection of the training were louder than those for accepting it.
The Speaker agreed to the votes as he said, “in order not to waste our precious time as we have budget to deal with.”
