INSOMNIA

(Liptonia)

insomnia insomnia

I can’t sleep

Glancing at the glowing red lights

Of my LED watch

For the umpteenth time in my involuntary night watch

Wondering how long the night could be

Crazy ideas, swirling around my head

Inspiration

Flowing like the River Niger in the rains

But strength, where art thou?

Can’t even grab my pen to write

High mental power

Low physical strength

With PHCN’s negative support

I’m so much out of drive

What did this to me?

I guess I misconstrued the Lipton tea’s yellow label

Fresh start to the day.

But I took it at 10 pm in the night.

So my body thinks night is day.

Brain on overdrive,

Like before a football final

Can’t sleep, oh dear Lord

Please put me to sleep (I don’t mean death)

Just this once more

And I promise,

No more caffeine after 8 p.m.
