Adegoke Ayomide Faith, the current Public Relations Officer of the Faculty of Law has been banned from the Students’ Union building over an alleged attempt to sexually harass a female student, multiple sources have briefed UCJUI.
Recall that in a statement signed by multiple members of the Union, including its President, Samson Tobiloba Host, circulated around midday on Monday, it stated that the student, popularly known as WeHaveFaith, is not to be seen anywhere around the Students’ Union Building till further notice.
The release also emphasized the current administration’s commitment towards ensuring the safety of students as well as mentioning the deployment of the UI SU Security Committee to sensitive areas. At the time, there was no mention of the reason for the ban, leading to questions from various quarters.
However, UCJUI gathered from multiple sources that the ban was because of an incident that allegedly happened today.
“It happened in the midnight. The girl involved reported the sexual molestation and it has been taken up,” an authoritative source, privy to the incident, told UCJUI this afternoon.
The alleged incident occurred around 3 am, at a corridor within the Union’s building today, UCJUI gathered.
The alleged victim, whose details are being protected, our source explained, was at the building to study overnight ahead of her next papers and she was reportedly saved by her “friends.”
UCJUI gathered that the alleged perpetrator, Adegoke Faith currently serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Law Students’ Society and recent activity hints that he might be seeking to take up the same position in the Students’ Union later this session.
‘We Have Started Taking Steps’
When contacted, the Union’s President who acknowledged UCJ’s exclusive information noted that they have started taking steps to ensure the matter is treated appropriately.
“The important details that you see are the details from the union and that’s because the union is working with the internal mechanism of the institution and security considering the sensitivity of the case,” the President said.
He noted that even though if someone is alleged of something, it does not mean that the person is guilty, the Union is currently working to ensure the victim is protected.
“That’s why we acted immediately. I got the notice around midnight and I have not done anything, not even sleep, since then.”
He added that they will ensure an investigation is carried out appropriately.
Multiple attempts to reach WeHaveFaith proved futile as his contact was not reachable at the time of this report.
