Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a worldwide Federation of young active citizens between the ages of 18 and 40 years. The Vision of the organization is “to be the leading global network of young active citizens”. It is our belief that with such a wide range of youths in our network, positive change will be inevitable. JCI is in about 205 countries of the world and in the University of Ibadan, it has been awarded the best students’ organization on campus.
We develop these young minds through leadership and entrepreneurial development to allow for individual capacity development in preparation for the foreseeable future. We also touch lives through many of our community development programmes.Some of the programs that have been executed this session include BLOOD DONATION EXERCISE, INTER SECONDARY SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION,VISITS TO MOTHERLESS BABIES,INTER FACULTY DEBATE,CLEAN UP INITIATIVE AT AGBOWO,SKILLS EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM. Etc.
We believe that service to humanity is the best work of life and we train our members for selfless giving to the community. We organize training programmes for our members on leadership.
Some of the upcoming programmes of the organization include
(1) Fifteen Outstanding Persons Award (FOPA) – 19th December,2014.
(2) Admissions Exercise.
(3) Tunde Oshobi Public Forum (TOPF)
FIFTEEN OUTSTANDING PERSONS AWARD (FOPA)
Fifteen outstanding persons award popularly known as FOPA is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the University of Ibadan. It was established in the year 1997 and this edition is the 16th of its kind. It has been waxing stronger each day as it evolves into one program yearn for every year as it celebrates excellence among both students and alumni that have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavour.
There are 2 sets of categories – Students and Alumni.
Various students have been nominated by UITES through nomination forms sent out to sample the opinions of people in the 10 categories for the students set. These students that have been nominated will be privileged to share the podium with those great Nigerians who would be receiving awards for the alumni category. The awardees in the alumni category include –
(1) Most outstanding alumnus in contribution to corporate governance- Chief John Odigi-Oyegun- National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC)
(2) Most outstanding alumnus in contribution to Public Administration – Prof.Soji Adejumo (former Chairman Oyo Subeb)
(3) Most outstanding alumnus in contribution to Information Technology – Mrs. Bridget Amobiojo (CEO Genius Information Technology)
(4) Most outstanding alumnus in contribution to Media Excellence- Mr Edward Dickson – Editor In chief Nigerian Tribune.
(5) Most outstanding alumnus in contribution to Professional Excellence – Prof. Babtunde Salako – Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
Apparently, these are men of unparalleled greatness and sophisticated personalities who have distinguished themselves in these fields mentioned.
We enjoin UITES to come and learn from these ones, network and have fun. These great men and woman are capable of mentoring and modeling our lives as youths with the focus of being leaders in our chosen fields too.
