BRING BACK CORRUPTION? WHY NOT WAIT?

It shocks and pisses me off whenever I hear supposed educated minds shout ‘bring back corruption’. I am less bothered when the unenlightened and less informed Nigerians make this statement. I witnessed a discussion one day and I was disappointed at the way a finalist, who is going out there, soon, spoke. Also, I watched a short video on Instagram of a bus driver who, out of frustration of not getting fuel, wished that the president; he and all Nigerians die at once. I wasn’t shocked because I didn’t expect ‘something’ from him, in fact I expected less when he was interviewed. When I compared these two people and their comments about the current state of the nation, I was disappointed. Now, the current president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, planned to ‘change’ the country. This change is supposed to take place within four years; 48 months and within just a year some shallow-minded Nigerians are complaining of nothing being done. Going down memory lane, since the presiding over by the first Nigerian prime minister up to this current moment, Nigerians have not stopped complaining. Now, a man who supposedly and apparently has a plan for Nigeria, having spent only one year has been bombarded with different comments; varying from being too slow, to being incapacitated to bring about the promised change. Now, these questions are asked and I expect the corruption-lovers in Nigeria to sensibly answer. How possible is change supposed to happen within such a short period? Not even the fourth year?

Let’s take a peek into history. Since the days of Nnamdi Azikiwe to Aguiyi Ironsi to Yakubu Gowon to Murtala Mohammed to Olusegun Obasanjo to Shehu Shagari to Muhammadu Buhari to Ibrahim Babangida to Ernest Shonekan to Sani Abacha to Abdulsalami Abubakar back to Olusegun Obasanjo to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to Goodluck Jonathan and back to Muhammadu Buhari, the cries of Nigerians are still the same. And everyone expects the ‘miracle working president’ to remedy the damage of over 55 years in 4 years? Let us all be realistic here, it will happen but it will only take some time. All Nigerians need to do is WAIT. Even both religious books – the Bible and Qu’ran preach patience and waiting. Then why would followers and believers of these Holy books not abide by it?

There are different approaches to different problems by different people. Why then compare President Muhammadu Buhari to other presidents? What we are blinded to is the fact that corruption is fighting back? The immediate past presidency made things very bad in turn making it quite difficult to correct the wrong. Why not wait and enjoy the change that will come around, no matter how little. Fellow Nigerians, get wisdom, wait.
