EDITORIAL
Many are the mottos and philosophies of men, which drive them presently, but much more are the processes they passed through before reaching that stage. These processes are the notable and visible signs which could be referred to as growth or perhaps development. A man cannot think of soaring high like an eagle without first passing through the stages of being carried by a mother figure; then crawl; helped to walk; stumble and fall, till can fully walk and run; then taught, helped or carried so as to be an eagle with little limitations, broad view, and still loyal with much strength.
Chris Brown musical lyrics, ‘… we crawl, so we can walk … we run till we are strong enough to jump; so we fly until there is no end …’ draws attention to what would happen if a child is born without the sufficient strength needed either by the parents or the child to live well or lives as a weakling due to all the situations which surrounds them?
Some people seem not to understand Mother Theresa’s words when she said “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.” Instead, some still worry about the past which is now history, others, about what tomorrow holds, which is a mystery but few worry about today, which is a gift. Day by day a child is born with a distinct style and uniqueness. This child represents a gift or opportunity by life, of life, and for life. The child’s life is determined solely on how they are nurtured.
Every man was born to be great, but some greatness are more equal than others because of the manner to which the life which is born in them daily was lived. This life is the child which is born each day which also equates to the gift which should be used as brick to build. This building is either for one’s self or the society around. Needless to note, if the foundation is crooked and destroyed, there is nothing any man can do.
So many started this session with the ideology of change, now that this is a new semester everyone has to be asked if that change of theirs yielded positivity. It would be unjust to judge but fair to call every man to a point when they will know where they really stand. The definition of a man’s life is not determined by success or failure but their will to either match on or stay put; standing but still. Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out. Do not be underestimated by comparing yourself with others but remain unique by that personal difference.
The election that seems unrealizable has come to pass and the winners are ready to occupy their offices at the brown building of Kunle Adepeju. Now the over 20,000 UI students are waiting for the miracle the illumination team will perform within their limited days in office. We must definitely tell the whole university community that the miracle would not come if your adequate support for the administration is zero and all you will do is to serve as critics for them.
To the eight members of the illumination team, those who have trusted you with their votes have not done you a favour rather they have given burdens and worries of over 20,000 Uites to carry for your days as leaders. If these worries are not relieved anf your presence is not felt while you claim you lead these students, then you are failure.
Our Fathers who are contesting to head the university management team for the next five years should know that the university is only leaving on past glories and we need a whole lot of reformation to be the self acclaimed best university in Nigeria and the eight best university in Africa. We should actually adopt the enterprise education system for Africa; not only to use our university resources to generate income for the school. We should also build her students to be able stand alone even after their first degree and not only to encourage them to come back for higher degrees.
