As the accreditation deadline for the 2025/2026 Students’ Union election closes today, Friday, November 28, 2025, several students of the University of Ibadan are yet to receive their accreditation mails, raising widespread concerns across campus.
The accreditation process officially began on Monday, November 24, 2025, with the Students’ Union Electoral Commission, University of Ibadan (SUECUI) stressing that accreditation is a compulsory requirement for voting in the forthcoming elections. Students were advised to check both their primary inbox and spam folders for the accreditation link.
While several students have confirmed receiving their accreditation mails, a significant number continue to report that no notification has been sent to them. Despite the growing complaints, especially troubling on the final day of the exercise, the Commission has not released any formal statement addressing these issues.
Speaking with the University of Ibadan Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), Kilanko Timileyin Joshua, Head of the SUEC Logistics Committee, acknowledged that the committee is aware of the situation. He noted that all complaints have been forwarded to the appropriate quarters, emphasising that some issues vary across faculties.
Kilanko urged students to thoroughly check their spam folders and other sections of their university email accounts, as the accreditation mail may be misplaced there.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, a political aspirant for the office of Students’ Union President created a group titled “Accreditation Complaint” to gather and organise reports from students experiencing difficulties. However, the Electoral Commission has not issued any official reaction or endorsement regarding this initiative.
With the accreditation exercise ending today, anxiety continues to grow among students who fear being disenfranchised in the upcoming union elections.
