As an adult, to sightsee in University of Ibadan Zoological garden, you pay a token of 500 naira. As a child, you pay the same amount. Also, as a student of the University— you pay an equivalent amount of 500 naira. Same!
In the past, there is usually a consideration of reduced price for students with presentation of their student identity card. However, since the inception of the current administration, the clause of preference given to students while visiting the zoo has been removed.
For students, the use of identity card to gain entry into the zoological garden for recreation and relaxation sake at a reduced fee is not considered, so, of what essence is being near to the gold land while you cannot enjoy or make use of this gold. What a world!
Speaking with a middle aged woman who works at the Zoo, she said “the school management instructed them to collect the usual fee of entry from students of the university, explaining in Yoruba that “they (students) are in the university to learn not to visit the zoo”.
When visiting the zoo, near the place where lions are kept to be précised, the odour coming from there is not so welcoming; one’s legs have to move further because of the odour. Such unhealthy odour was perceived in some other areas in the zoo. Well, is this not a sign of poor management?
Let it keep sounding in your mind!
