Kenneth Mellanby Hall Legislative Council, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adedoyin Folorunsho, has finalized the 2018 amendment of the hall constitution.
In an interview had with the Honourable Speaker, MHPO gathered that the amendment process of the Hall’s constitution had started a year ago when Mr. Ogunkolade Gracious was the the speaker of the house.
“This was a project that began when I was the minority leader of the 2016/2017 Council and I was also a member of that review committee. It was one of the reasons I decided to come back to the council and I’m glad that it has been completed successfully.”, Rt. Hon. Folorunsho said.
The Honourable Speaker also said that the amended constitution is the result of a lot of efforts put into the amendment process. “A lot went into the review, intellectual contributions, late night meetings and so on both on the part of the review committee members principally and also the council.”, he said.
“I’m a strong believer that systems ought to be strengthened for positive societal development. The reviewed constitution having taken care of loopholes and lacunas and also introducing new structures will go a long way in ensuring that governance is less frictitious and the aims and objectives of the association is properly achieved.”, he added.
When asked what should be the attitude of Mellanbites towards the amended constitution, the Honourable Speaker enjoined all Mellanbites to see to the implementation of the constitution.
“It is … pertinent to state that the constitution is only useful when implemented, so it falls to all organs of the Hall to ensure that the provisions are complied with. Also it is necessary that mellanbites familiarise themselves with the constitution to avoid being deprived of their constitutional rights as it is known that ignorance of the law is no excuse.”, he said
