The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is coming down to University of Ibadan to deliver the ninth public lecture to be hosted by Sigma Club.
This was disclosed by the 68-year-old student fraternity to the Union of Campus Journalists at a press conference that held on Friday, October 12th, 2018.
Deputy Sigma Chief, Loyalist Yusuf Waheed who stood on behalf of the Sigma Chief to read the press statement at the press conference stated that Sigma Club is going to have the ninth edition of its annual public lecture on October 27th at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
In his Press statement, Loyalist Yusuf Waheed stated that the Public lecture is one of the events to commemorate the 68th anniversary of the club. “As a club deeply committed and passionate about national development, the public lecture will offer the opportunities to x-ray, through deep intellectual discourse, the benefits of youth empowerment to national development as well as opportunities available for the actualization.”, he said.
He further noted that the 9th edition of the Public lecture is the club’s contribution to the uplifting of our dear nation. In addition, Loyalist f Waheed disclosed the theme of the Public lecture as – “Developing the nation through youth empowerment.” “The guest speaker will be proffering workable solution to the menace of unemployment.“, he said.
In response to the invite nature of the Public lecture, Mr. Igbonekwu Valentine, who was deputised by Loyalist Yusuf Waheed stated that the word ‘public’ defines the nature of the Public lecture. According to him, “The public lecture is for everybody and not restricted to anyone.” Mr. Igbonekwu Valentine further clarified why the mentioned guest speaker of the event was the club’s best option. According to him, “The Vice President has made substantial contribution to ameliorating the scourge of youths’ unemployment in the country.”
During the press conference, Sigma Club entertained questions on their scholarship scheme of the club. Mr. Igbonekwu Valentine stated that the scheme will rejuvenate starting from next year. He said this is to improve the status of the scheme grant-in-aid. He however noted that “the scholarship is just for ten persons every session.” According to him, “Whoever that is going to be Sigma scholar must be indigent and diligent.” The deputy sigma chief, Loyalist Yusuf Waheed added that the entry for the indigent scholarship requires applicants to write an exam, which measures their diligence.
