Following the welcome note by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka of the Premier University, the University of Ibadan, some students of the university have expressed via an opinion poll posted by the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ) UI on FaceBook that they would write their own calendar if the school management does anything to frustrate the students.

Besides the particular student that expressed this feeling, others liked his comment in approval of his position.

Let’s bring to mind that Unstable academic calendar is a common phenomenon among several Nigerian universities. This arises either out of social unrest by the students due to what they term anti-students’ policy, or industrial action of the academic staff and non academic staff.

This among others justifies the reason why many universities in Nigeria do not convoke their graduate students in their year of graduation; UI is an example.
