“Boko haram are totally anti-Islamic injunction” – UI Pro Chancellor

The University of Ibadan Pro Chancellor, Dr Umar Musa has said that Islam is a religion of peace as Boko haram is absolutely not in conformity with the tenets and teachings of Islam.

He made this statement at the special Jumu’at service held at the University’s central mosque to commemorate the 68th Convocation ceremony.

At the programme which had in attendance dignitaries to include, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu among others; Dr. Umar prayed for the country that “May Allah help out Nigeria in her current economic downturn.

While speaking at the special prayer session, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka acknowledged the support of the Muslim Community of the University since his ascension to the office of the Vice chancellor and he solicited more cooperation from them for a better University.

During the spiritual prayer session, the Chief Imam of the University, Professor Abdulrahmon Oloyede started by seeking forgiveness of Allah for all individuals present in the programme; he later gave thanks to Allah for the achievement of the University so far, more importantly in conquering cultism in the University. Professor Abdulrahmon Oloyede finally prayed for the University and Nigeria at large that “May peace continue to reign both in the University and the country (Nigeria)”.

The Minister of Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu who said that his visit was abrupt as he was not initially invited to the convocation programme but he was at a programme in the Department of Psychology but the programme happened to coincides because of his need to observe jumat prayer.

He disclosed further that he will make sure that he does all in his capacity to improve the ICT base of both the University and the Muslim Community as far as he is the Minister of communication.
