Some residents of Kenneth Mellanby Hall, University of Ibadan had removed the board of the Hall Press organisation, Mellanby Hall Press Organization (MHPO).
The incident which came as a surprise to all occurred at about 8:30pm on Tuesday 19th April 2016.
According to an eye witness, the removal of the board was as a result of an article, specifically the editorial cartoon, which was published on that day.
The content of the article was in line with the election loss recorded by the endorsed Presidential candidate of the Hall, Mr. Adegoke Kehinde (KCENT). The article which presented the bitter truth of the matter was of the stand that the loss recorded was contrary to the motto of the Hall, “We Lead, Others Follow”.
The angered Mellanbites, according to an eye witness who craved anonymity, were not deterred from going ahead with their plan by present members of the Hall Executive Cabinet. They also clamoured that the press should be banned in the Hall.
“He (one of the angry Mellanbites) said they don’t want the press anymore”, the witness said.
The Information Minister of the Hall, Mr. Agada Isreal, when contacted said the Press board was in the Television Room and the Hall Chairman, Mr. Bello Omobolaji had suggested that the organization (MHPO) writes an apology letter to residents of the Hall.
It should be remembered that members of the hall have been downcast since the announcement of the Students’ Union election results.
