AFAS SAGA: THE CRIPPLED TUSSLE

Funny how it takes but weeks to throw billions at mismanaged banks, but it’s taken years and no end in sight to agree on matters vital to the survival of the damn planet— Tom

A situational dilemma that is aimed at a targeted end will not produce its intended result if it is formulated to kill in order to elevate. Every great man is bound to rebuff any perceived tainted picture aimed at him but the born-to-serve will take it as a means of bringing them into limelight. Our inner mind will resist any form of cultural trait that does not conform to our contemporary society.

The mild drama rehearsed last week to be erupted as a tragic-comedy in some weeks to come is worth ruminating on as a concerned organ of the Association. Just like a reverie, the Faculty Legislative Council (FLC) of the Association of Faculty of Arts Students (AFAS) impeached the Social Director of this dispensation due to ‘dereliction of duty’. To some, it was just a means to the end but to us, the end has come already. The decision has been taken and the gavel has been hit. But beyond the gavel and the decision, what are the circumstances that surround this act and the fate of our nascent association?

The illiteracy that befuddles our seemingly literate leaders is incomparable to that of none- Shadwell is a servant of dullness to them. Over time, our Association has been a child of misappropriation in the hands of power drunks and ignorance. The circumstances that led to the impeachment of the embattled Social Director are questionable to every discerning human. Beyond what any human might think, we need to take the bull by the horn by killing falsehood.

Without mincing words, the embattled Social Director is a grandchild to ignorance and a bona fide child of the lineage of Shadwell. She demonstrated her ignorance by falling prey of the hungry and angry sons of poverty. She pursued her dreams by leaving her goals behind, no wonder she came with nothing but a never-imagined impeachment. Really, she has been working for the Association tirelessly, but she became the innocent victim of the thievery sacrifice. The Ex-Social Director demonstrated her intellectual ignorance by leaving a bird at hand to pursue ten in the bush. Today, the bad Shepherd who abandoned a sheep for ninety-nine others has been rewarded with the satanic gift. It could have been better had it been that the impeachment victim planned her budget with the amount at hand instead of aimlessly touring the road of beggary about.

May we close our eyes to recite the autocratic prayer? If the lord be, the government will be cursed! The actions of our Legislative Council do bring to mind the words of George Carlin that “they call it American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.” The interest of the stalwarts of the Council is always tagged the interest of the undiscerning AFASites! For how long shall a one-sided agenda be called the AFAS INTEREST? Truth be told, many have erred but one has been punished. If we may ask the powers-that-be, what is the interest of those unpunished? Intellectuals are waiting for an undiluted answer. It is high time you stopped using some sectional corrupt ignorant minds to achieve your selfish missions. We really need to prove to the world that we have lived beyond the age of impunity and agrarian radicalism.

The moral question is, who is the victim of this ugly scenario? We are to wait for an unknown time for the Association to have another social director; a time that seems not to be forthcoming, a time that seems to fall within the planned period of the embattled ex-Social Director. If we are to wait for a new person to man the office, then the impeachment is nothing but wrongly-motivated, inordinate, devilish, un-intellectual, barbaric, shallow and a mere witch-hunting by some big wigs within the realms of power. If a new person is to man the office, familiarise themselves with the basics of the office, before planning to organise any programme, then, let the few good ones cry for this Association. This issue will always remind us the issue of deputies brought up some time ago. Should we rely on the same Council of Presidents and Secretaries (CPS) which has not been able to produce deputies for a by-election? Above all, if the punishment for miscellaneous offences is impeachment, nobody is worth standing at the moment. This present saga in our beloved Association is a crippled tussle which is dead on arrival. The deed has been done, AFASites are at the mercies of their “leaders.”
