Whenever they pray that a bad prophecy/dream will not come to pass in your life, give such prayer a big amen and always work towards; this has always been the advice the old gives to the youths of today. We guess this saying is what came to play in Nigeria’s destiny as we make a great historic event of changing the power at the centre from one party to another with votes and not guns.
We must congratulate Nigerians for averting such a devilish prophecy which some set of individuals have been saying that by 2015, Nigeria will disintegrate. We must specially congratulate former president for conceding defeat and handing over a safe nation to President Muhammadu Buhari; if it is for this singular act that he is nominated and recommended for nobel peace prize, then he is worth it.
Buhari has given us a speech with little or no flaws at the inauguration ceremony, touching the length and breadth of the problem stopping Nigeria from attaining socio-economic prosperity; he promised to tackle them and restore glory in them. We want you all to know that it is just a speech that wipes off our tears of depleting state of the economy but it is a hard way that the new government has to walk through to achieve these promises.
Buhari walked his way through to the highest office in the country with a lot of struggle and patience. He has started contesting to hold this office since 2003 but he got the mandate to be the president in 2015, what a long wait! His story should serve as an inspiration to the University of Ibadan Students’ Union who has started its struggle of becoming independent from the school management.
“Campaign is like poetry, governance is like prose,” a former United State president said. This was the statement considered by the students’ leaders when they stood up and made some demands from the school management which the major of all the demands was not approved and we were told that the senate will have to seat on that demand by January 2016.
The students’ leaders who have nothing to gain from the incoming administration have tried all they could to bail us out from the chains of the management but the keys were collected from them and have been placed in our hands, it is left for us to know how to keep and use the keys when necessary.
We all know that at this moment we should have been done with our Students’ Union elections which was boycotted and further postponed because of these demands. We must reveal to you that though almost all the aspirants signed to boycott the electoral process but not all of them are happy because they want to be noticed at all times before the elections but that could not give them a chance.
Some individuals turned the OFFICIAL GROUP OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN STUDENTS’ UNION into a war zone with the intention of creating an online presence for themselves and their preferred candidates, by trying to have an online debate where they had flawless speeches that will not manifest the change nor bring good luck to our union. If only wishes were horses, their debate speeches would bring back the glory of the union to life.
Greatest UI students, it is high time we opened our eyes and see above the horizon; to choose a quality leader who can continue the struggle that leads to our freedom from the management. The ball is in our court to determine how future of our union will be; how the style of our studentship will be. The will does not choose between good and evil; rather it is our choice that makes it good or evil.
