The much-anticipated students’ union week has come and gone. It was accompanied by lots of criticisms right from the presentation of the budget till the Thanksgiving Sunday. Students complained about the low level of publicity on the part of organizers, the rowdiness of the “asun” night and the boring Ivory King and Queen Pageantry. Some also lamented on the fact that there was no ceremonial atmosphere as it did not even feel like anything eventful was going on. The opinions of the students are sampled below.
To me, the students’ union week was not it at all. I think they wasted money because the events were not well organized. The asun night was quite rowdy, there was noise everywhere. Even the Mr. and Miss. U.I, I heard was very boring but got interesting towards the end, I wish I went though. All in all, it was okay.
ADEGBOLA DAMILOLA, 300Level LINGUISTICS.
To start with, the students’ union week publicity was so whack. It was really low like I did not even know anything was going on in the school. Although I did not attend any of the events from reports, I heard that most of the events were okay especially the Ivory Queen and King pageantry. I could not even attend that because we had GES impromptu test which I did not think was right during the students’ union week. Besides that i did not think much of it, it was just there.

I cannot really say much but there were so many things that went wrong with the week. However, I did not attend most of the events so I am not really in the best position to say if it was a failure or not. It was just okay.

The students’ union week to me has been disappointing. I was expecting a lot more with the amount we heard was budgeted for the students’ union week because it was not so interesting. I think if they had taken their time to organize it well it would have been interesting. The Ivory Queen and King started really late instead of 4p.m, it started by 8p.m and most people left late, it even caused issues especially for girls in Queen Elizabeth Hall. Even the Campus Blast started late and was not what I expected.
