The University of Ibadan (UI) management has on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, announced the date for the final closure of the Halls of Residence (HoRs) for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The announcement which was made through an internal memorandum from the Office of the Dean of Students, Prof. Demola Lewis, to all Hall Wardens within the university, had stipulated 04:00 am on Monday, 16th of February, 2026 as the final time and date for the closure of the Halls of Residence, for the 2024/2025 academic session, mandatorily after the UI Senate Meeting, which is going to take place on the same date.
However, while all residents of the HoRs are instructed to vacate on or before the stipulated time and date, Kenneth Mellanby and Queen Elizabeth II Halls of Residence should provide temporary accommodation to undergraduate students on continuing programmes, such as students on Industrial Training, Teaching Practice and Practical Training, after they have obtained an Authority-to-Pay from the Lodgings Unit at the Students Affairs Division and made required payment at the rate of three hundred naira per day (₦300.00/day) into the dedicated account at the UI Microfinance Bank.
“The payment should be for 16 days (i.e. 17 Feb. to 4 March 2026). Upon payment, those seeking temporary accommodation should please convert the bank teller to a receipt at the Treasury Unit of the Bursary, and thereafter submit the same at the Lodgings Unit”, the memorandum further stipulated.
In addition, the memorandum stated that fumigation of Halls of Residence (HoRs) is to commence on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the day after the stipulated deadline for the closure of HoRs. However, Hall wardens of postgraduate HoRs should “devise makeshift arrangements for residents whose programmes overlap sessions, such as doctoral candidates and those on three-semester programmes”, the memorandum concluded.
