The 2025 edition of Jaw War reached a dramatic conclusion on Saturday at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan, as the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Sultan Bello Hall claimed top honours in the faculty and hall categories.
The highly anticipated grand finale, which began around 3:00 p.m., saw Sultan Bello Hall outshine Queen Idia Hall with a total of 81.85 points, maintaining a clear lead over Idia’s 75.8 points. Sultan Bello’s speakers, Mojoyinola Okikiola Daniel and Muiz Opeyemi Ajayi, delivered powerful performances, with Muiz later named Best Speaker of the day.
In the faculty contest, the Faculty of Clinical Sciences secured victory with 80.8 points, narrowly edging out the Faculty of Education, which finished with 79.7 points. Clinical Sciences was represented by Eriomala John and Ogunleye Moboluwarin, while the Education reps were Israel Bolarinwa and Bartholomew Samuel.
Several individual awards were also presented during the event, including:
- Most Outstanding Speaker: Akinlawon Goodluck
- Overall Best Rebuttal: Babatimehin Asiwaju
- Overall Best Speech: Opeyemi Muiz
- Best Finalist Speaker: Mong Victor
- Overall Best Speaker: Filade Michael
- Audience Choice Award: Mayowa Adekola Peculiar(MAP)
Beyond the main categories, the University of Ibadan secured an additional win in the National Oratory Competition, where Mong Victor emerged victorious with 78.8%. LAUTECH’s representative, Ayomide Adekunle, followed closely with 76.4%, while Adeniyi Abraham Oluwatoyin of Lead City University placed third with 62%.
In the rookies’ oratory division, centred on the theme “The Struggles of Women’s Rights in Africa: Past, Present, and Future,” Oyedeji Peter took first place.
Winners from both the hall and faculty categories were awarded plots of land, phones and a cash prize.
The event wrapped up at about 8:30 p.m., marking the end of another competitive and emotion-filled Jaw War season.
