The Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for the Africa region, BCCC-Africa, is set to hold a one-day inception workshop on Plastic waste awareness on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The workshop titled, “Accelerating Community Awareness on Plastic Waste Through Interventions with Students and Graduates of Tertiary Educational Institutions in Ibadan, Nigeria”, is scheduled to take place at Olabamiji Hall, Department of Peace, Security and Humanitarian Services, University of Ibadan.
According to BCCC-Africa, the essence of the workshop is to “enhance community awareness on plastic issues in Nigeria by exploiting the sustainable availability of members of the National Youth Service Corps in all parts of the country”.
To achieve this, BCCC- Africa “aims to build capacities and knowledge of selected final year undergraduates of the University of Ibadan and The Polytechnic Ibadan on plastic waste management issues”.
The selected members for this program would be trained and required to use their NYSC programme as an opportunity to raise awareness on plastic issues wherever they may be serving.
In addition, a selected number of Youth Corps currently deployed and serving in Ibadan will be trained for the awareness raising and their activities will be monitored.
