As students await the commencement of the Congress, 2 hours after the scheduled time, Covenant Odedele, UI’SU President, has appealed to the students present on the Congress ground to be patient till the quorum is formed.

“We are working as much as possible to mobilise people and get the quorum. We want you to bear with us,” he said.

Speaking with UCJ on the delay in notifying students of Congress, he noted that The decision to hold the Congress today was reached late at night at the emergency SRC sitting.

According to him, this made it difficult for the release to be made contrary to the resolution of the SRC that the notification should be released thirty minutes after the sitting.

“Considering the time of the day, the whole thing was finalised, and there was barely a chance to make the release.

“It is not the case of shying away from what we are meant to do. It is just the case of doing what is practical.”

He further stated that a broadcast message was circulated on WhatsApp platforms at midnight and was later substantiated by an official release.

It should be noted that contrary to the president’s claim, the initial motion for the Congress was made by the SRC on Saturday, 10th of May, 2025, and the referenced emergency meeting by the President was only called to uphold the resolution of the SRC for a Congress which the Executive council tried to subvert.
