BLACKOUT IN UI  MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT HOLDS UG. AND PG. SEMINARS  INTER-HALL COMPETITION BEGINS  R2K14 COMES TO AN END  ZIKPRESS ORGANIZES ZIKRADIO THE NEWS IN FULL

BLACKOUT IN UI: It was a period that appeared as though the University of Ibadan community was missing from the electricity grid of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria and the Ibadan Distribution Company. The epileptic power supply ravaging our beloved Nation, Nigeria, once again reared its ugly head in the first and the best University in Nigeria, a glimpse of what had already happened in Queen Idia and Obafemi Awolowo Halls of residence early in the semester. This time around, there was total blackout in all the Halls of residence on Campus, various departments, Faculties, Staff quarters and University units. It was revealed that the problem was due to a damaged major cable supplying electricity around the Campus. However, the issue was rectified following a peaceful rally organized by demanding and law abiding students of the University

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT HOLDS UG. AND PG. SEMINARS: It was a week of presentations, seminars and defenses in the department of Mechanical Engineering. It was a period to show how far project students in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels had gone in their research and recent studies on projects that would solve societal problems. Hence, highlighting the need for and existence of the project, steps that have been taken in ensuring that the objectives of the projects would be met and phases that have been considered in delivering possible problem-solving outcomes and results of respective projects. The Seminar for the Final year students of the Undergraduate level of the Department of Mechanical Engineering took place on Wednesday, 29th of October, 2014 while that of the Postgraduate students took place on Thursday, 30th of October, 2014, both academic affairs took place at the Fluid lab, former Faculty of Technology building and Design studio, department of Mechanical Engineering. The seminars were enlightening, informative and outstandingly world class.

INTER-HALL COMPETITION BEGINS: The much anticipated Inter Hall Competition started on Thursday, 30th of October, 2014 with a football match between Tedder Hall and Kuti Hall, the match ended two nil in favour of Tedder hall. The competition comprises of sporting activities like football, athletics, table tennis, judo, volleyball, basketballand others. Two students of the department of Mechanical Engineering and faculty of Technology, Madufor Obinna and Kolawole Dimeji won Gold in the doubles event of the table tennis contest. Madufor Obinna and Kolawole Dimeji also won Gold and Bronze in the singles event of the table tennis contest.

R2K14 COMES TO AN END: The Redeemed Christian Fellowship, University of Ibadan, undergraduate chapter concluded her annual convention otherwise known as R2K for the year 2014 (R2K14). The program which was tagged “A New Name”, the theme for the tenure, started on Sunday, 26th of October, 2014, and ended on Sunday, 2nd of November, 2014. The Opening Ceremony as it is the norm comprised of Match past, choreography, an epic traditional dance routine, poetry, edifying rap, melodious songs and the sermon from the throne of grace. Other programs in the weeklong event were Word feasts, business and financial talk, drama night, musical concert, football competition, picnic and the Closing ceremony which was the peak of the annual convention. The Closing ceremony comprised of beautiful song renditions, hip hop dance routines, poetry, rap, launching of the magazine, and the sermon which was delivered by Dr. Sunday Isheunwa, Head of the department of Petroleum Engineering.

ZIKPRESS ORGANIZES ZIKRADIO: Award winning Press Organization, Zikpress Organization on Sunday, 2nd of November, 2014, held her monthly ZikRadio program. The program which was the first in this session was not on air for some time due to the malfunctioning of the Public Address System in Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall of residence. The program which came soon after the repair of the Public Address System comprised of News segment, Interviews, debated discussions, Health segment, Entertainment segment, recent technological innovations and Sport segment.
