The management of the University of Ibadan released a circular in the early hours of April 2, 2025 on UI WhatsApp platforms denouncing X user @ibadanuni as fraudulent.
The fake account had solicited for funds from “stakeholders, including students, staff, alumni and the general public” to verify it’s social media accounts in a now deleted post on X.

The University advised members of the public, students and staff to unfollow the account.
“Staff and students as well as members of the public are advised… to unfollow because it is not the official social handle of the University of Ibadan but obviously a page created to solicit financial assistance. The University of Ibadan will not solicit funds for such frivolous issues.”
The circular clarified that the official handles of the University as @uniibadan on X and University of Ibadan on Facebook.
