A pressman was assaulted and arrested today at the inauguration of the new executives and student representatives, today Friday, 7th March 2025.
The pressman, Akanni, a member of the Zik hall press was forced to handover his phone because he tried taking videos and pictures of the assault of Linus Nice, the disqualified majority leader of Obafemi Awolowo Hall representative constituency
When he resisted, he was slapped and later arrested.
The President of the Union of Campus Journalist was also assaulted during the altercation when he tried to intervene, his phone was seized and he was brutally pushed out of the hall.
Although he tried to explain that he was a pressman, he was ignored and was only let in a while after.
While other students who tried to make videos of the incident had their phones seized, only Akanni was taken into custody.
As at the time of this press release, the pressman has been released from the university security unit, however, he has not been allowed into Trenchard Hall.
