On Saturday, 22nd of February, 2025, the elections to bring in the new set of Executives for the Students Union of the University of Ibadan held. This was an election that was keenly contested by 12 aspirants for the various offices that exist in the Union.
UCJUI, under its Election Watch Room initiative, deployed campus journalists as field observers to various Halls of Residence and other strategic places to monitor the election. Thousands of Uites cast their votes but also witnessed attacks in a number of places, including some of our reporters being intimidated and harassed.
While appropriate steps are being taken to address this situation, which clearly was an attack on press freedom, these were some of the moments we captured:
