Following UCJ’s report on the delayed response to the students’ call for Congress, the President of the University of Ibadan Students Union, Aweda Bolaji, has issued a statement addressing the situation.
He confirmed receiving the letter calling for Congress but stated that it won’t hold due to the short time frame that the call was initiated.
“I received the call for Congress yesterday and I’ve worked on it. Unfortunately, the Congress cannot hold due to the short time frame. The call for Congress came in less than 48 hours to the Congress and there are people we have to notify of Congress,” he said.
He further maintained that “the union needs enough time to mobilize for the Congress so we can form a quorum.”
“As at now, we’re working on the verification of the signatories of the Congress,” he concluded.
