Two members of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI), Adebayo Abdulrahman and Tijani Abdulkabeer, who were shortlisted in three categories of the 2022 Alfred Opubor Next-Gen CJID Campus Reporter Awards have won awards and certificates of excellence in the respective categories they were shortlisted for in the award ceremony which held on Friday, December 2, at the Treasure Suites Hotel, Central Business District, Abuja.
Adebayo, who doubles as UCJUI Features Editor and Indy Press Politics Editor, emerged as the winner in the “Best Fact Check” category for fact-checking for his entry “Fact-check: No, Buhari Did Not Lift 10.5 Million Nigerians Out Of Poverty In Two Years”, and he was also awarded a certificate of excellence as the first runner-up in the “Best Conflict Story” for his entry “Beyond Numbers (I): Distraught Family, Scheduled Wedding…Victims Of Owo Massacre”.
Tijani, who is Afas Press News Editor, emerged as the second runner-up in the ‘Best Health Reporting’ category for his entry “Health tech: A non-profit is using artificial intelligence to link blood donors”, for which he was also awarded a certificate of excellence.
