Ebube Ezeadum, a 200-l student of Medicine and Surgery, University of Ibadan has won the first prize for the Sunday Oguntola Essay Competition. Ebube beat four other entrants who were shortlisted alongside him to clinch the top position.
UCJ UI had earlier reported that five out of fifteen entrants were shortlisted for the award.
Ebube was announced winner during the UCJ UI Induction/ Famous Five Awards ceremony held on Saturday at Trenchard Hall. He went home with a sum of N30,000.
In the same vein, Abdul Habeeb Korede and Odo Christain came first-runner up and second-runner up and they both went home with a sum of N20,000 and N10,000 respectively.
Speaking with our correspondent, Ebube expressed gratitude to God for winning, while also xacknowledging UCJ UI for the opportunity.
“I’m grateful to God and to UCJ UI for the opportunity to participate in the competition. I’ve been writing (for competitions) for a while now, but it has always been coming with rejections. So being a winner for this (competition) made me decide to keep on pushing as it will always get better and eventually, I’ll get to where I always want to be.”
“All in all,” he concluded, I’m elated and word alone cannot express how fulfilled I am.”
Khadijat Alade and Aduluju Temiloluwa, who were on the shortlist, were also recognized at the event.
