Every blessed year, they come, they come with truckload of WhatsApp broadcasts and graphics; everyone expressing their intentions of running from various positions from the department, faculties, halls of Residence and the Students’ Uxnion’ level. Newbies into the University system have their mind bugged with the questions like; “Is this it, is this how student’s politics has always been, all these promises and manifestoes are they realistic? Electorates concerned indeed do think, every blessed academic session that, is these the day of hopes or the beacon of assurances promised, but no, they only come to play on your innocence through their propaganda and other Diplomatic actions.
Posters and banners are slowly becoming the major point of seeking out personalities and the use of WhatsApp TVs’ which is fast becoming the new “Diamond FM”, walls of Nnamdi Azikiwe and the Great Independence Halls has been defaced by campaign pamphlets and posters. Swift turning of necks from one side to the other, eyesight captures campaign materials of Mascot, Jesugbemi, Richard, Bam T, etc. Designers and printing company on and off campus are feasting, as indeed, this is their Christmas.
To avoid being played out of innocence or apathy, while they come to seek votes and disappear afterwards, we complained about failed promises whole new politicians are campaigning around with their ideologies and manifestoes, confront them (honorably), Drill these political candidates, what are their agendas, how to tackle pressing issues associated with political offices and the University environment (or their area of influence, departments, faculties, Halls etc.) And if not satisfied, the political spaces are wide for every one go contest in as much as the requirements for each post are met, you can make a change.
Indeed, as the growing political participation and socialization is on fast rising, each candidate with different manifestoes and counter manifestoes, it is important for the University residents to brace up from the dramas to be unfold in coming weeks.
