OSUN 2011 ELECTIONS; INEC LOSES APPEAL

The court of appeal, Akure division dismissed the appeal filed by the Independent Electoral Committee (INEC) on a judgement that prevented the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, AmbassadorToyinAkeju from conducting the 2011 elections.

INEC approached the court of appeal after the judgement of the Federal High court in Osogbo on March 28, 2014 as a result of the suits filed against Akeju; being a card-carrying member of the defunct APC and an associate to the leader of the party.

Reacting to the judgement, Mr Sunday Ojo-Williams, Director PDP Legal Unit said by implication all elections conducted by Akeju into the state House of Assembly, House of Representative and the senate is null and void.

However, Mr KunleOyatomi, Director Publicity, Research and Strategy for APC in the state said “I have not seen the Judgement it is difficult for me to comment on it.”(Adapted from Nigerian Tribune, www.tribune.com.ng)

ANOTHER BLOOD ON THE PLATEAU

The National Caretaker Chairman of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM) RwasRwang DalyopDantong has cried on to the federal government to come to the rescue of Berom people from insurgents who have been terrorizing the Plateau North senatorial zone

According to Dantong, “The series of attacks commenced on the 2nd of October and has continued on daily basis.

He continued “The major attacks were preceded with silent killings of innocent farmers on their farms. We cried to the security agencies but nothing was done. Now the attackers have made it a daily attack. Since the last ten days, we have recovered at least 26 bodies from the various communities attacked by the insurgents. RIVERS GETS 200M TO FIGHT EBOLA

Rivers State Government on Friday said it has received N200 million grants from the Federal Government to assist in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.

The Minister of Health, OnyebuchiChukwu, had announced the approval of N200 million to the state’s government to check the spread of the virus in the state.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, confirmed on Friday that the state has received the money and thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for fulfilling his promise. The Commissioner also appealed to Rivers State public to maintain the observance of their personal hygiene to sustain the fight against the disease. (Culled from the Nation, www.thenationonline.net)
