Jungles are not only meant for the animals; a large number of people are residents too. After all, we (humans) are higher animals. As it is now, it looks as if our President, Mohammadu Buhari, possesses a Bachelor of Science (B. Sc) degree in Political Science studies, which makes him to understand the political concept of Aristotle — “zoon politikon”, meaning that humans (Nigerians) are political animals. Therefore, he treats us as such.
I don’t know the root of Nigeria’s problem, and of course, I think it’d be less tedious to find water in a desert than to dig to the bottom of Nigeria’s socio-political issues.
However, I would close my eyes to all the shortcomings of this incumbent administration except the sardonic and inhumanly issues happening lately.
In this article, my feathers are short, so I may not be able to fly back farther in time. Last year, amidst pandemic, the country witnessed a nationwide protest — the #EndSARS Movement. This protest was initiated by furious youths who are; boiling, frying and are tired of dying everyday like fowls. Heartbreakingly, on October 20, 2020, many youths were killed during the course of protest at the Lekki Toll gate, Lagos. Funny, till date, we are yet to hear from the President concerning this unconstitutional happening.
But in my thoughts, we misused our rights. Normally, as an animal that we are assumed to be, we weren’t supposed to act or engage in any form of protest because we are meant to obey our owner —the farm keeper (President). But Buhari couldn’t figure out where and how he found these obstinate animals, who query him and fight for their rights anytime they’re fed up with pertinent incidents being reciprocated by casual and shaking actions. So, because animals are meant to be eaten, the farm keeper ordered his slaves to kill some for evening suya. Later, the next day, he addressed the remaining animals, through a live broadcast, to be dull and dumb or else, they’re roasted like Barbecue fish. We kept shut!
Fast-forward to this present moment. Insecurity has been the talk of the town, but our President decides to show unperturbedness towards the rampant killings. The Fulani “herdsmen” who suddenly became “gunmen” do not relent in killing people, from one geo-political zone to another. This is among the reasons why many people such as Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho, Omoyele Sowore clamour for restructuring. Now, we have the bandits who kidnap at daylight and ask for ransoms. But what the government could do is to beg them on our behalf. Well, animals have no liberty. So, living is by luck.
Do you know that it only means extravagantness for animals to drink in sachets? For long, animals are meant to go to the stream and drink. But these Buhari’s animals are nothing but arrogant fools, how dare they hope to drink in a sachet! In order to curb this, the price of sachet water recently witnessed a 100% inflation, with the latest amount doubling the previous, and as quantity and quality reduce drastically. Price of food stuffs are not friendly too, and of course, as animals, we are meant to eat the leftovers by our boss. So, we should not complain about inflation because it’s not for us, it’s solely for our boss; who has the money to buy.
Lately, the President said that the social media (Twitter) abused him by deleting his tweet — the one that preaches war and disharmony. Maybe because a bird, which is also an animal, is the official logo of Twitter, our President thinks he should address it as he addresses us; his citizens, as animals. Now, the President is angry and, in his verdict, he has ordered, through the forbidden Twitter, that his citizens do not to use the app again. Valid decision! You don’t expect animals to be mobile, much less of them using Twitter.
Now, Nigerians are realising that they have a powerful President who talks and never fails. Nigerians, like Israelites, are foolish for expecting salvation from a Devil. What does the Devil offer, other than deceit?
