Chief John Odigie Oyegun, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has been named the new Chairman of the University of Ibadan Governing Council, thereby succeeding Nde Waklek Joshua Mutka.

The new development followed the eventual dissolving of the Joshua Mutka-led Governing Council by the President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as announced by the Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, on Thursday, 8 April, 2021.

According to the report by Channels TV, Chief John Oyegun served with the following people as members of the Council: Dr Mazud Kazaure from the North-West, Com. Abba Yaro from the North Central, Alh. Abubakar Maikafi from the North East, and Hon. Emeka Nwagbo from the South East.

Recall that the Governing Council was earlier suspended following issues that stemmed from the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor. The new Council is expected to oversee the process for the selection of a Vice-Chancellor to succeed erstwhile VC, Prof. Idowu Olayinka.
