The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka has commissioned some projects at the Ransome Kuti hall which include a fountain, students’ wash area, a porters’ lodge, and new offices for the warden and supervisor.

According to the VC, the projects were funded by the Chief Executive Officer of Air-Peace Airlines, Barrister Allen Onyema.

Barrister Onyema is an alumnus of the institution and resided in the Ransome Kuti hall as an undergraduate. He graduated from UI’s faculty of Law in 1987.

It should be recalled that Barrister Onyema was honored with the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award at the University of Ibadan 2019 Alumni Lecture where he reportedly donated an undisclosed amount to Kuti Hall last year, which the students’ executives of the hall used for execution of the projects.

In addition to the projects executed, the students’ executives of the hall reportedly procured a 65 inches Hi-sense television, 3.5KVA generator, and also renovated the hall’s senior common room (SCR).

While commissioning the projects, the Vice Chancellor stated that the projects were provided to improve the living condition of students staying in the hostel.

“All these are done to improve the living condition of the residents. The good relationship between the hall management, the students’ executive council and the alumni has started yielding positive results. The Chief Executive Officer of the Air-Peace, Barrister Allen Onyema who happens to be an alumnus of Kuti Hall visited the Hall and provided financial support, part of which was utilised to establish Peace-Torch Fountain, students wash area, 65 inches Hi-sense television, 3.5KVA generator and upgrading of students’ secretariat,  among others,” he said.

He also added that Barrister Onyema has shown commitment to the University by donating a bus to the Faculty of Law where he was trained and converted the Bola Ige Building at the Alumni Centre to a two-storey building.
