UCJ UI UNVEILS WINNERS OF 4TH EDITION OF ‘FISAYO SOYOMBO ESSAY CONTEST

The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, after several months of wait has finally unveiled the winners of the fourth edition of the annual ‘Fisayo Soyombo Interuniversity Essay Contest.

The essay contest which was opened for entries on August 1st and closed on November 30th was entered by over 170 undergraduates from 26 tertiary institutions of learning across the country.

In a statement made available by the President of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, Mr. Martins Isaac, the following entrants are named as the top 13 participants in the just graded essay competition:

  • Olaniyan Oluwadara – U.I.
  • Theophilus Alawonde – U.I
  • Mobolaji Abimbola – U.I.
  • Ajiboye Oluwadamilare – U. I
  • Asudemade Habeebulah – U.I.
  • Joshua John – U.I.
  • Abibat Orimoyegun – UNIBEN
  • Adegbite Joy – BOWEN
  • Ubah Chigozie – UNILAG
  • Anzaa Msonter – Benue State University
  • Ayodele Habibulah – U.I.
  • Asaolu Adewola – U.I.
  • Obike Victoria Ngozika  – UI

While the president had earlier released that about half of the entries are from students from universities other than the University of Ibadan, results hereby released feature nine out of thirteen successful entries as students of UI.

Meanwhile, the winner of the 4th edition of the ‘Fisayo Soyombo Essay Contest is going to be announced along with the two runners-up at the Awards ceremony/luncheon which is going to hold on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at Sultan Bello Dome. The President also mentioned that the remaining ten top entrants will be recognized as honourable mentions.

The First Prize is to receive a plaque + internship placement + #200,000

The Second Prize is to receive a cash prize of #150,000

The Third Prize is expected to receive a cash prize of #100,000

The award ceremony is to be graced by the sponsor himself and features other awards such as the #250,000 ICIR Award for Data/Investigative Journalism, the J6 award for most outstanding female journalist and over twenty several awards cutting across all genres of journalism and can be touted the biggest award ceremony in the University of Ibadan.
